As a professor of comparative literature, I own several books dealing with this very issue. When I got my Kindle, I said: "oh, what the Hell? Let's give this one a try". I am glad I bought it. It is very well researched, informative, well written and witty. It is clear a labour of love. A very good option for any lit student.

I love this book! Our local library doesn't have much, if anything, about backyard habitats for kids. I loved the pictures and the kids and I had fun using it to see if we could see those birds in our yard. It has been a wonderful supplement to our science curriculum this year!

Wonderful slice of 19th century Sicilian life

This tiny booklet of short stories offers wonderful vignettes of 19th century life in Sicily. The characters come alive and some of the stories remind me of my late grandparents' tales about villagers in the "old country". Especially nice booklet for people of Sicilian descent.

Worth the price

These short stories are a strange Surreal landscape of humor and characterization.
There is virtue in this capture of a culture and a time in words.
These are some of the best short stories of this period that I've read.
I'm glad they weren't overworked in to parts of a novel
as is the custom today.

Cute stories for any reader

Not-Hard stories that anyone of just about any mental capacity can read and understand, I liked it for that. Great stories, stories pretty much based on the most common tales of humanity and society, but with an interesting twist. I rated it a 4 primarily for what it offers to a lot of people, the opportunity to read well written novelettes, and because its not quite a 5 (its no Les Miserables or War and Peace) but still enjoyable!

Demetrios E. Tonias, P.E. is president and chief executive officer of HMC Group Ltd., a Schenectady, New York-based firm specializing in the development and application of computer-aided civil engineering and management systems. As both a design engineer and software developer, Mr. Tonias has worked as a project manager and engineer for a wide variety of bridge rehabilitation, site development, and public works projects. Mr. Tonias is currently a member of the Adjunct Engineering Faculty at Union College.

Not a typical textbook

I am a bridge engineer, and I was in the market for some textbooks that I could use for references at work. I purchased this book and a few others. It is a comprehensive text covering a broad range of topics related to bridge engineering, far more than your typical textbook. However, it really just skims the surface. I was looking more for a textbook where I could lookup specific design examples and ideally one that would run through a complete bridge design (or at least super/sub-structure). This text has a few general design examples scattered throughout, but they are relatively basic and few and far between. Not a good text for a bridge engineer looking for a reference. More geared towards the non-structural engineer or the structural engineering undergraduate.

This is a very good, comprehensive book regarding basic bridge design. It won't help you design the next Hangzhou Bay Bridge, but it gives good explanations regarding the fundamentals of more typical bridge design, maintenance, and rehabilitation.
