Of what fun it is to jam

The title is the best review for this product as it is what it is. A collection of jazz carols that allows the instrumentalist (or vocalist) play along. Great fun for those of us who no longer play in bars or bands but want to jazz out every once and a while.

Year 'Round Fun for Christmas

Hal Leonard has done it again with this tasteful mix of Christmas fast tempo classics, ballads, and waltz. One of my favorite tunes has always been the swing jazz rendition, "Let it Snow!, Let it Snow!", by Count Bassie with the tenor sax solo as played. At first I was skeptical with salsa used instead, but the backing band is well versed and now has become my favorite tune in the book. The book has a mix of fast and slow. "Rudolph" is fast swing, "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" is slow ballad, giving the playing improvisationist a wide variety of genres for the listening ear. This book is excellent for the upcoming artist or the accomplished pro for fun playing.

About the Author
Joe Chamblin was born in Florida and raised in southern Ohio where he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at age 18. He served 15 years in the Marines and almost 10 of those as a Scout Sniper. He is a veteran of action in Albania in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan. He also served in a handful of other countries while serving with various units during his time in the Corps. While on his last deployment to Afghanistan with 3rd Battalion 2d Marines in 2011 his Scout Sniper Platoon delivered a devastating toll on the enemy, inflicting well over 300 enemy KIA and numerous other casualties. It was on this deployment is also where the YouTube video was taken. Joe was the leader of the team involved and one of the Marines in the infamous "Marine Urination Video Scandal". He has now broken his silence in order to ensure his Marines entire stories are told. Stories of his men's courage, sacrifice and heroism that has become unjustly over shadowed by a 39 second video. The men of 3rd Battalion 2d Marines Scout Sniper Platoon deserve for the world to know the rest of their story.

A book about modern day Spartans, hard charging warriors that took the fight to the enemy's front door. This book is the true essence of real service to God and country. Politically correct America doesn't understand what it takes to get the job done. Si vis pacem, para bellum "If you want peace, prepare for war" A group of men larger than life that went above and beyond to strike fear into the enemy's heart. God Bless our Scout Snipers!

Great story of real warriors on todays battlefield

Great story of real warriors on todays battlefield. Due to the innovative work they did, countless lives were saved. If you are a military buff or just interested in a true story of a group of warriors, you must read this book. The men of 3/2 Scout Sniper Platoon drastically changed the dynamics of the battlefield and turned the tides against the enemy. THAT is what they need to be remembered for, not some 17 second video that became a political game. Great work Joe.

One of the best books on Tesla that I have read

One of the best books on Tesla that I have read. It gave me more technical insight into what he had accomplished, especially the ac motor and the polyphase electrical system that is the foundation of our electrical generating and distribution system.!!

Sadly, he was not a good business man. If he had simply modified his contract with George Westinghouse to give him at least some royalties (10 cents per installed horsepower instead of $1), he would have had the money to continue his researches, instead of relying on that robber baron, J. P. Morgan!!

Morgan actually stifled Tesla, in my opinion.

Probably one of the most important books for young NDN's to read

Vine changed my outlook on a lot of things with this book, I read it as a young man of 22 or so and being a halfy from the south lets just say that whole pissed off youth thing was raging pretty hard. I still am not sure exactly why this book made me more at peace with my self and the unpaid dues of the real history of this country, but I had a much healthier outlook after this book and it will always be dear to me, I am not sure if this book was even intended for NDN's as the title implies its for non NDN folks, but it will be required reading for my kids and hopefully theirs. I have bought it 12 times and loaned it 11. I only have one copy.

About the Author
Goerge Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) was one of the most prolific writers of the modern theater. He invented the modern comedy of ideas, expounding on social and political problems with a razor-sharp tongue. He won the 1925 Nobel Prize for literature. Dan H. Laurence is series editor for the works of Shaw in Penguin. W. J. McCormack is professor of literary history at Goldsmith's College, London.

Nicholas Grene is Professor of English Literature at Trinity College, Dublin, a Senior Fellow of the College, a Member of the Royal Irish Academy and a Life Member of Clare Hall, Cambridge. He has published widely on Shakespeare, drama, and Irish literature, and his books include Bernard Shaw: A Critical View (1984), Shakespeare's Tragic Imagination (1992), The Politics of Irish Drama (Cambridge University Press, 1999) and Shakespeare's Serial History Plays (Cambridge University Press, 2002). Among his most recent books are Yeats's Poetic Codes (2008), the New Mermaids edition of Major Barbara (2008), Synge and Edwardian Ireland (co-edited with Brian Cliff, 2011), and a memoir Nothing Quite Like It: An American-Irish Childhood (2011). He has been invited to speak in over twenty countries and has been a visiting professor at the University of New South Wales, Dartmouth College and the University of Paris IV (Sorbonne).

WARNING....abridged version

Although I love Pygmalion, this is an ABRIDGED version. Many scenes are not included, particularly at the end of each act. If you want an unabridged version, I would suggest the Penguin Classics edition.

The Evolution of Pygmalion

Pygmalion is a brilliant success by George Bernard Shaw to modernize the legendary Greek tale of a sculptor who falls in love with his artsitic creation and wishes to bring her to life. The rags-to-riches tale of Eliza Doolittle captivates the reader with its fast paced storyline, and witty dialogue. Shaw fascinates the reader with complicated characters such as Henry Higgins, Doolittle, and Colonel Pickering. Set in England, during a period of sophistication and elegance, Higgins and Pickering were faced with the seemingly impossible task of transforming a filthy flower girl (Eliza) into a beautiful duchess. The outrageous antics that ensue are both humorous and entertaining. Shaw's playful dialogue and timeless plot have been updated to fit the social and cultural standards of our time. For example, Alan Jay Lerner's My Fair Lady is an internationally acclaimed musical adaptation of Shaw's classic play. 1999 brought yet another adaptation of Pygmalion, in the form of the film She's All That, penned by R. Lee Fleming Jr. This teen comedy brings a new twist to the classic characters of Shaw's play. Pygmalion is a quick read and an enjoyable way to spend the day, and the characters in the story will remain with you forever.

Two-fer-one: the play and the musical

This is a really nice edition since it has George Bernard Shaw's original text AND the script of Lerner and Loewe's musical adaptation, including the lyrics. I actually read the play in the Simon and Schuster paperback edition and followed each act by reading this book's My Fair Lady; the lyrics are a lot of fun to read, just as they were fun to hear in the movie or the soundtrack or on the stage.

While I was reading Pygmalion, Henry Higgins comes across as even more insufferable than the character as depicted by Rex Harrison. But Shaw was trying to make a point in his play -- actually, several points -- about the English language. For example, the Publisher's Note in this edition quotes Shaw in 1902 discussing what he emphatically states as the stupid, unnecessary use of apostrophes in such words as won't, can't, haven't, etc., and it strikes me that in today's abbreviated computer-speak (lol, omg, etc.) his desire is finally come to pass. Oh well, it only took a hundred years.

But the use of apostrophes is just one point made seriously but humorously in both play and musical, and you really need to read both to understand the full message about the use of language and "types" of people, including Eliza's father, not to mention the Conclusion to the play not widely known by the non-readers among us. I thought both the play and the musical were delightful and this is a wonderful edition because it includes the full text of both, but the Simon and Schuster edition has Shaw's complete Epilogue.
